KB Teachers is a subscription-based website that provides a wide-variety of worksheets. Though at first glance, it might appear to be primarily for elementary grades, dig a little deeper, and you’ll find materials for middle and high school, especially in the science and social studies categories.
Anyone wishing to supplement their curriculum, especially in math, will find this website quite useful. The randomly generated money-counting worksheets(***LINK THIS***), in particular, are worth the price of the subscription. I didn’t realize how much we needed it until we tried it.
Initially, I printed out one of each type of money-counting activity, to make up a weekly packet for each child. They completed it, I corrected and returned it to them for corrections. The second week, their packet was made of of just the activities that they hadn’t gotten 100% on the week prior. Several weeks into it, I’ve seen two results: all four children have improved their counting skills, and all four, especially the older two, are being MUCH more careful about counting accurately the first time.
Too many teens and adults these days struggle to count money without a digital aid – this is a simple way of keeping those skills sharp, and requires very little time from me to prepare. We’ll continue to use this feature in the fun & review packets that we do.
Another feature I really like is the webquests. Organized by month, they’re short and simple research projects for the internet. With a few links and questions, they’re a fun and easy way to add general knowledge to your homeschool, without a significant time investment. It’s also helpful in teaching your child to discern what information is and isn’t important on a website, and how to acquire what is needed with a reasonable amount of effort – something that most of us could use more practice in.
The worksheets are attractive and light on ink usage, mostly in black and white, with a few color illustrations. (Remember to print in greyscale if you’re trying to save ink.) I also appreciate how quick the website is; similar websites are often slow to load.
As with anything, I’d like to see more, more, more… but that’s partly the insatiable nature of the eclectic homeschooler. I also struggle a bit with finding things – I’d like to see the entire year’s worth of webquests and holiday themes more easy to access in the “off season” – it would help greatly when I’m preparing material in advance.
KB Teachers is preparing a major website upgrade, due to release sometime in late November or December. I’m looking forward to checking back in after the update, and seeing what new things are on offer. Join me?
