Without books.

memory

I read a lot of writer-blogs. One of my favorite is Genreality. Author Diane Peterfreund has a short post about The Tragedy of Unifinished [book] Series (in general) and her unfinished series (in particular) – and why those sometimes happen (unicorns? I love unicorns. Definitely going to have to look up her work…) but for me, the true tragedies are when the author dies.

I’ll be rereading the Wheel of Time in preparation for A Memory of Light to come out in January – I am so . . . → Read More: Without books.

Book Review: A Cry From Egypt

ACryFromEgypt

It’s pretty rare that all four of my kids demand the next installment in a book series. Until now, those few titles have been the sort that movies are being from, with wizards or wimps or such.

A brand-new author broke the mold. Her name is Hope Auer, and she’s achieved the seemingly impossible; in A Cry From Egypt, she’s written historically (and Biblically) accurate Christian fiction that leaps off the page and captivates the imagination as well as any secular tale.

A fix for book addicts

hslb

I’m a book addict. I admit it. I’m on a self-imposed book diet at the moment; no books unless we *really need them for school* until AFTER we get everything unpacked. (It’s been slow going – for homeschoolers, we sure haven’t been home much this spring!)

I’m tempted, though. Come a little closer and I’ll whisper you the secret… wouldn’t want anyone to catch on that I’m thinking about falling off the [book]wagon. Somebody reminded me about a bookseller… nothing quite like dangling it in front of me!

Read For The Heart

ApologiaReadfortheHeart

I admit it. I’m a book-a-holic, and I love to read. Books, books, and more books.

It’s contagious, and my kids have caught the bug. With the way we go through books, well… let’s just say, we can always use suggestions of what to read next.

So of course, books ABOUT books are a particular favorite of mine. I’ve collected quite a few over the years, and each of them have their quirks – some arranged by mood, some by age level, many by genre… and even several created especially for homeschoolers.

I’ve recently . . . → Read More: Read For The Heart

Kregel Publications – Circle C Beginnings

andi and taffy

Last year, when I was just a reader of reviews, and not yet a Crew member, I’d seen the reviews about the Circle C series from Kregel Publications. They sounded fun, something my daughter would enjoy, th0ugh this was before her horse-crazy phase. The covers really stuck in my mind – in fact, that’s what caught my attention in the first place. They reminded me of the old Harlequin Presents romance series. Not sure why – they just did. Made a mental note to myself to track down the titles . . . → Read More: Kregel Publications – Circle C Beginnings

Yesterday’s Classics

YClogo

I absolutely LOVE ebooks, let’s just get that statement out of the way right off the bat. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got a pretty huge space in my heart for real books, too – but the enticement of one small device stuffed with a virtual library of books, enough so I never run out – well, that totally tips the scale.

I’ve been using ebooks for (literally) ten years. First on PDAs purchased solely for that purpose, later on a Palm phone, most recently on a dedicated ebook reader. And intermittently on the . . . → Read More: Yesterday’s Classics

Unlock our Library Event

The Library District is up for a new vote on November 2 – today we attended an “Unlock Our Library” Event with lots of hope, fun, and people.

Prayer and positive thoughts. Pretty much all we have left that we can do.

Faith-based fiction: The Chronicles of Peleg

foundlingscover

I admit it. In our house, we generally read for pure entertainment. It would be stretching the truth to claim anything less. It’s pretty difficult to become an avid reader if you don’t actually enjoy reading.

For the real book addicts, though, we’ll try pretty much anything once. My dad is like that. I once caught him reading a category romance that I’d picked up in a 3 for $1 bin – he’d run out of reading material. Reading straight the dictionary or an encyclopedia, same difference: those were normal in the house . . . → Read More: Faith-based fiction: The Chronicles of Peleg
